FAQ + exclusive stock is finally here!!

Journal Entry: Mon May 5, 2008, 11:02 AM
  • Mood: Hysterical

That's right, I've FINALLY submitted my exclusive stock photos that have been sitting around gathering dust on my computer! I wasn't able to submit them before because I didn't know how to set up a payment page on PayPal, but ~PyroDemi changed all that! Thanks so much, you were so much help and I'm really grateful!! :glomp:

So go check out my exclusive stock!!!
[link]
YOU CAN MAKE PRINTS OUT OF THESE!!! That's basically the only reason why I've made exclusive stock: because I thought it was a shame that no prints could be allowed with my other stock photos all because of a few handfuls of disrespectful people.

They're $3 USD for each individual image and I know they'll probably never be bought, but I just wanted that option to be available ^^; plus, now I could offer them as prizes if I ever hold a contest! So enjoy if you want!!

:star: Frequently Asked Questions (and answers): stuff about me and my stock

Why are your stock images so small?
They're not (in my opinion); you have to click the "Download" button on the left side of each image to get the full size. I made it that way so that it's easier to look through my photos and you don't have to wait for everything to load.

Do you do requests?
Not anymore; I used to, but now I'm in college and have very limited time.

Why are there two sets of rules/which one should I follow?
One set, the old set that only had three basic rules, wasn't working out for me. So I had to make a second, new set of rules. I haven't gotten around to editing all my stock images yet ('cause there are so many) so some are still displaying the old set of rules. DON'T FOLLOW THOSE, FOLLOW THE NEW RULES that you can find below in this journal. Sorry for the confusion...

How old are you?
18 years

Will you ever make nude stock?
No.

Do you make all your stock photos by yourself?
Mostly yes; I'm the model and the photographer for most of my stock, but I do ask my friends and family to help me out sometimes to photograph.

What happened to that guy you used to share this account and make stock with?
He turned into an asshole and we're not friends/don't speak to each other anymore. It's very unfortunate and pretty upsetting, but life happens and people change. But for the sakes of the artists on deviantArt, I didn't delete the "couples stock" we made: just go to the "Browse" section of my gallery and they'll be in there somewhere.

Can I make prints out of my artwork with your stock in it?
No, read the rules below. I used to be open to discussion as long as people asked me first, but many people just didn't even bother to ask my permission at all. I find that very rude so now it's just "No Prints. Period." However, I have made some exclusive stock that can be used in prints; just read the little gray box above.

Can I post my artwork with your stock in it outside of deviantArt on my personal portfolio website?
I prefer you not post any artwork with my stock outside of deviantArt because then stupid people get the impression that they can use my stock outside of deviantArt (WHICH THEY CAN'T), and also for personal security reasons. But if you really, really, REALLY want to, then send me a note and we'll talk about it.

Can we be stock sisters?
If you're awesome and supply stock then of course! Add me to your journal and tell me so I can add you to mine :)

some random stuff about me:

+ I loooove stockings. Completely.
+ I'm a huge fan of color/bright and colorul things.
+ I hate Valentine's Day.
+ I plan on dying my hair just as soon as I have time.
+ Someday, faery dust will be sprinkled upon my head and I'll be taller than 5' 3"...
+ H20 is my most favorite drink.

:new:STOCK RULES

:skullbones: Credit me.
Link back to the stock photo you used or to my main page in the description of your piece (artist's comment section).

:skullbones: Tell me if you use my stock.
Through a note (this account) with a link to your finished piece so I can see and praise your work.

:skullbones: Use my stock photos for art purposes only.
Nothing pornographic, hate-related, illegal, commercial, personal profit...etc.
This includes the official contests that deviantART hosts.

:skullbones: NO PRINTS.
FAQ #204: If my print contains an image that isn't mine, can I still use it for print?
I tried to be open and asked people to ask me for permission first, but I'm tired of getting links to artwork using my stock and seeing it available as a print without my permission. So I'm not open anymore. No prints. I am also going to stop giving warnings; if you don't have the time to read my rules, I don't have the time to issue you a warning. I'll just report your piece that doesn't have my permission to be a print.

:skullbones: DO NOT use my stock outside of deviantART.
My stock is to be used only by deviantArtists on deviantArt. (Again, if you've already received my permission to post your artwork outside of deviantART, that's fine, you don't have to take it down.)

:skullbones: Be creative.
Don't just change the color or something.

Follow these rules or don't use my stock. That's all there is to it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to note me and ask.

it's a great idea to do that with your stocks but that also has the potential of losing people using them. I think you should put prices possibly on certain ones and for stock not as good as others, label them as 'free stock' thats just an idea.

Yeah, I realized that too. I was thinking of maybe making packs or something out of
the series I have going throughout my gallery, and then leave the single images that aren't
part of any series free. I was also leaving some series' shots out of the packs, so it's not like
you couldn't use any images from certain series.
Do you think that would work?

FAQ #204: If my print contains an image that isn't mine, can I still use it for print?
~LithiumSacrifice:iconLithiumSacrifice: Feb 26, 2008, 9:00:39 PM
yeah, that possibly could. :) i can see it working because already your well known and people make good use off your photos and surely a lot of people will want to keep using them :)

I have noticed a trend of good stock artists that put together a pack for sale and individual ones for free use.

Personally, I have never bought any but then I do not consider myself good enough yet to go through the extra expense but those that are making prints and such want better stock for that reason as I understand it. So why not make a little extra for your effort.

Well...I mean, if you were going to charge people who were using your pictures for prints, yeah. You can totally justify that.

FAQ #204: If my print contains an image that isn't mine, can I still use it for print?
*blacksockstock:iconblacksockstock: Feb 28, 2008, 10:03:54 AM
I know; the thing is, not everyone is an asshat like those who didn't even consider asking my permission, so that's the one thing I'm concerned with --I don't want to penalize them or anything.

FAQ #204: If my print contains an image that isn't mine, can I still use it for print?
*dpsleepy:icondpsleepy: Feb 28, 2008, 2:00:37 PM Mood: Unhappy
Short answer: Please don't charge for your stock, even though it's good enough to pay for. If you do, I will be forced to stop using it.

Longer answer: To begin with, you know that I love using your stock. I've used it a bunch, and would like to continue using it.

Now, let me just say that I am not a professional artist and have no ambition to become one. I do manipulation because I enjoy it, and I share my manips because I think maybe it might help others who have dark/romantic sensibilities similar to mine. I spend very, very little money on this (I use GIMP, e.g.), because it is just a hobby, and there are more important priorities. (I wouldn't even have a DA sub if they weren't so cheap.)

I don't put my images up for prints for just that reason: I don't want stock artists to feel ripped off. (Also, I don't know that anyone would buy anything anyway.)

I couldn't justify to myself paying $1-$2 for an image that I might never use, either because my skill is not at the required level for whatever vision I wanted, or because, when I try to use the image, it just won't fit my purposes. I can't tell you how many false starts I make with a concept or stock image, only to throw the whole thing away and put it back into the small corners of my mind to "cook". If, beside my wasted effort, there was also wasted money, I'd be up nights worrying whether this was a valid use of part of my life.

I think I understand your position, and it is, of course, your choice. I hope you understand mine.
