Hi dear acorns and apples!
So, as the journal title states, I've decided to extend the deadline to my Celestial Signs Contest; actually, I need to extend the deadline: my November is set to become a very busy month with many major deadlines for my job, and quite a bit of personal matters to attend as well. And on top of that, I also want to be able to work on my own art projects. I don't want to judge entries in haste, so this is mostly why I've decided to extend the contest's deadline.
But another partial reason is because not many people have entries for this contest, and in all honesty, it's making me quite sad. I'm just remembering the last time I held a contest when many artists here seemed very enthusiastic, and I had over 80 people participate with over 100 entries total. I'm not certain why that is; I think it's because I've usually held my contests during summer time, so maybe people have more time because it's summer vacation for most. But since graduating college and getting a full-time job, I've forgotten the typical school schedule, so maybe this was just bad timing on my part.
However, dA just seems different since the last time I've really been able to be active on this site. It seems more impersonal: when I was last active here, about 3 years ago, people would take time to comment on others pieces, and people would take time to thank others for supporting their art with +favorites and +watches. Some people still do this, but it doesn't seem that way for the most part lately, and now it seems like it's quick +favorite-ing, giving a piece just a few seconds to look at, decide if you like it "enough", and then moving on down the line. It's like the "Facebook like"...but I won't get started on that.
Sometimes I contemplate closing this stock account, but then I wonder if it's just because I feel stressed out due to work. But I won't lie: I have been thinking about it more. Since not as many people use my stock these days, I'd probably have to conclude that people don't like using it anymore. And if that's the case, why don't I just close it? But then I remember that there are a handful of people who would be sad to see my stock go, so it's mostly because of them I'm still around...
Anyway, I think this will probably be the last contest I hold. It seems a waste of effort and time if no one is really that interested, and after moving on from college, you just notice how you have less and less time...
Anyway!!!
Enough of my rambling; I doubt anyone will actually bother to read it, so here's the important stuff:
Celestial Signs Contest deadline extended to the end of December 25, 2012 11:59 PM (23:59) EDT.
All entries are being featured collected and featured in my journal at this blacksockstock.deviantart.com/… , so please check it out!
I thought about moving it to the end of November or beginning of December, but I know for sure I'll have some free time over Christmas break from work, so let's just be safe. Additionally, due to this contest extension, I found some really amazing pieces in my forum thread to tide you over and appease the wait.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to make it to semi-finals for the RAWards Photography category and could really use everyone's help to nominate me.
To give context, this past summer I was in my first art show in Chicago for RAW: Natural Born Artists. Raw Artists is an independent artist organization that helps promote unknown talent and local artists; every year they have a contest and provide prizes that will help provide artists of all categories opportunities to further their careers professionally. More information about the contest can be found here: http://www.rawartists.org/rawards6 Basically, the artists with the most votes in their cat

Hello everyone!
As some of you may know, aside from stock photography and other resources, I also tend to make a lot of photos, and I also occasionally draw things (weird flowery things) from time to time. So, in one month, I'll be in my first art show for my photography (and maybe a few drawings)!

Hello again!
Hi everyone!
After a nice long break, I think I'm ready to revamp and restart my stock account! I've already started taking some stock photos out of storage and will continue to do this slowly. It will have to be slowly because I'm simultaneously giving my account a makeover, in a way. A while ago, I changed my account username from blacksockstock to sophiaastock (https://www.deviantart.com/sophiaastock) and so I would like to replace my old stock..."banners?" with my new ones. It's going to be rather tedious, but I have also been meaning to sort through my stock --some of it is just not very good, so this will give me a chance to go through it all. I don't remember why I
